Why I won’t Buy World of Warcraft Gold

I read a very interesting blog post the other day ,  it was by the guy about what happened when he bought some gold in World of Warcraft. I can’t remember all the details but this was the main gist of the post.  It was basically a post about a level 80 character  who had got banned just because he bought some gold outside of the game . His character was pretty high up in some guild or other, but the problem was he usually played the main tank in the Guild.  Now being the ‘tank’ is not a problem in itself, in fact it’s kinda fun but you have to spend loads repairing your equipment and armour all the time.

Anyway this chap did some farming for gold but he never seemed to have time to make enough.  So he bought a few thousand gold pieces from one of those WoW gold selling sites.  Seemed fine, picked up his gold ok and could relax and have fun in the game without all the boring grinding.   Unfortunately the next time he came to login then he got a shock,  a simple message saying his account had been banned.  His level 80 character gone forever, he appealed and begged but Blizzard wouldn’t relent. One small gold purchase and all that time invested gone forever, his character deleted.

I really could feel his pain , imagine how long it takes to level a character up to 80?   Count up the hours levelling, then for gold, equipment – all those quests instantly wiped out.  We’re talking hundreds and hundred of hours of gameplay to get to that position. The blog continued with more bad news  , the Guild ended up falling apart as there was a lot of disagreement in his characters replacement.
Put yourself in his position , do you think it’s worth the risk as that fast track to a new mount or a new piece of armour.   Every web site I look at which sells gold always says – 100% safe, no risk .   But remember this is very obviously a lie unless you but it from Blizzard themselves .  Obviously putting “50% safe” or “you should be ok” on your site is not going to boost sales but that’s probably closer to the mark.   

The other argument I’ve heard in WoW that buying gold is safe is this one – Warcraft is so big they couldn’t possibly catch or track everyone.  Well I’m afraid this is rubbish – if they wanted they can easily track, flag or monitor transactions.  They already do it as part of the games engine anyway.  It is easy to build up a list of characters and IP addresses used by gold sellers . Monitor them for a while and you’ll have a huge list of people who have bought gold online.  

Some people think that Blizzard won’t delete accounts because they will lose money .  This is also a fallacy, WoW is a huge business now with millions of players and anything that threatens to manipulate the game or the environment would have to be controlled quite ruthlessly including banning any one caught buying gold.

Seriously let that blog post stop you from making the same mistake,  just play the game to enjoy it.  Just earn the gold within the game, save your real money for real things.   Buying gold from the World of warcraft sellers is simpply not worth the problems.  If you need Wow gold desperately then learn how to earn it quickly – there are many guides that help with WoW gold making.   A decent gold farming method will make sure you keep your account safe, and minimise the boring gold grinding.
